The Yuksom Dzongri Trek is one of Sikkim's most famous short, high-altitude trekking destinations. This trek starts from Yuksam and ends at Yuksam, spanning 6 days. The Dzongri Trek is designed for trekkers who want to explore more in a shorter period. Dzongri and Dzongri La (view point) are the best spots to view the mountains and their ranges in the Sikkim Himalayas.

Yuksom Dzongri Trek is a shorter version of the Goechala Trek and it offers an unique experience as it leads toward the famous Goecha La. This premier trekking trail in Sikkim takes trekkers up close to the spectacular view of the mighty Kanchenjunga, set amidst a majestic panorama of the other Himalayan giants within the mountain ranges.

Trip Highlights & Attractions

The Yuksom-Dzongri Trek is an extension of the Dzongri Trek, offering a pure hiking experience. The trail ascends steeply from Yuksom to Bakkhim, then follows the Rathong Valley to the settlement of Tsokha. From there, it meets the Tsokha trail, which leads to Pedhang, and then trekkers make their way across the river to the 3930-meter-high Thangsing.

During this trek from Dzongri View Points, you can see some of the most well-known peaks including Mighty Mt. Kanchendzonga (8585m - the third highest mountain in the world), Mt. Pandim (6691m), Mt. Kabur North (7338m), Mt. Kabur South (7317m), Mt. Kumbhakarna (Janoo) (7710m), Mt. Simvo (6811m), Mt. Kabru Forked (6108m), Mt. Frey Peak (5830m), Mt. Rathong (6679m), Mt. Kokthang (6147m), and Mt. Goecha Peak (5127m).


Yuksom Dzongri Trekking, Itinerary

Arrive Delhi connecting fly to Bagdogra airport. Meet the guide at the airport and drive to Gangtok. (126 km/5 hrs.) Overnight hotel.
A leisure day in Gangtok visiting places of tourist interest including Tashi view Point, Ganash Tok, Hanuman Tok and famous Enchey Monastery back to hotel after breakfast other Point visit Tibetology, Institute of Cottage Industry, Dro-Drul Chorten, Rope way and Flower snow world famous Rumtek Monastery. Return Back to hotel. Evening walk at the Mall or shopping/leisure.
Drive to Yuksam(1,780 m.) from Gangtok. Arrive Yuksom In the evening take a walk to the Yoksom Coronation site, a simple stone bench, where the three monks appointed the first king of Sikkim. Visit the nearby Ani Gompa (Buddhist nunnery). Overnight at Yoksom.
Trek from Yuksum to Sachen taken approx. 6 hrs.Trek begins with a low gradient until you cross Sachen and the third bridge , Walk through dense forest of pine and oak after crossing river Prek Chu it is straight 70 degree uphill climb this is the toughest stage in the entire trek , It will last for 2 Hrs depends on the fitness of the clients Finally we will come toBakhim this is just a resting point for the first day. This campsite has only one hut of forest department in the hilly dense forest.Overnight at Camp or tourist hut.
Trek then we reach Bakhim the trail from Bakhim passes through magnolia and rhododendron trees the most tiring uphill climb. Tshoka is a small village housing about twelve thatched roof houses mainly Tibetan settlement .If weather remains clear we can see Mount Pandim, Aralunchong, Lama -Lamini,Pandim. Overnight in Tent or lodge
Trek from Tshoka to Dzongri is still a steep climbing time taken approx 5hrs we go through dense forest of rhododendrons there’re over 400 flowering species , a place called Deorali Dara provides a magnificent view of mountains.Then we reach Phethang for a break .After Phethang still further climbing we reach Dzongri here the Vegetation is thin and we tend to find only small bushes and shrubs for the night stay here is a tourist hut Its usually overcrowded and noisy. In Dzongri early morning we take a walk to Dabla Khang( DzongriTop) the view from this place is magnificent one can view all the peaks .Acclimatization here is must for further ascending trekkers. Overnight in tent.
Early risers can get up before dawn to climb to a vantage point on a ridge above the campsite to watch the sunrise on Khangchendzonga, Kabru, Pandim, Rathong, and many other peaks of the Khangchendzonga range. Full day excursion to Laxmi Pokhari. The trial first goes through rhododendron bushes and pasture land for about an hour to Chamaray. From here it is a gradual ascent to Laxmi Pokhari, a big lake cupped in a deep crater. Here you will get good view of Khangchendzonga range, Pandim, Narsing, Kabur, Kabur dome, Koktang etc. If you reach Laxmi Pokhari early and feeling physically fit, an excursion towards Kabur rock will be a rewarding experience. Back to Dzongri.
On this day early morning one can savor views of the mountain peaks by climbing up to Dzongri Top. From here you get a panoramic view of Kabru (7,353m.), Ratong (6,678m.), Kanchenjanga (8,534m.), Koktang (6,147m.), Pandim (6,691m.) and Narsingh (5,825m.). Towards the west, the Singalila Ridge, which separates Sikkim from. back to Tshoka overnight stay.
Now we are retracing our steps as we return downhill to Yuksom. It is a steep 4,000 ft descent and takes about seven hours. Evening we bid farewell during a gathering with the porters and all the trekking staff. Overnight at Tashigang hotel ( 6,000 ft ) Yuksom.
After breakfast drive from Yuksom to Pemayantse (55 km/3hrs) via visit Khecheopalri Lake, Khecheopalri Lake is one of the sacred Buddhist mountain lake wherever it is believed that whatever is wished in front of the lake comes true. Myth has its that when a leaf falls on the placid clear water surface is picked by a bird and continue drive to Pemayantse. Arrive Pemayantse check in hotel. Evening take a pleasant walk enjoying the sun set over Mt. Khangchendzonga. Stay Overnight hotel
After breakfast transfer from Pemayanste to Darjeeling ( 110 km, 04 hrs on the way River Rangit and tea Garden arrive evening check in hotel and free). Check in hotel stay overnight.
Early morning tour to Tiger Hills (at around 4 am) to view sunrise over Kanchenjunga Peak . The view is spectacular on a clear weather day.On way back visit Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop . Afternoon visit to Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (Closed on Thursday), Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tenzing, Gumbu Rock site and Tibetan Refugee self-help (Closed on Sunday) Center Tea Estate. Overnight at Hotel.
Early morning, drive to your destination either Bhudrapur Airport Bagdogra Airport/ NJP Station Trips ends!
